When managing your online courses, you have the flexibility to set different access levels depending on the specific use case or scenario:
Free course
A free course is accessible to anyone without a fee. Here are the key use cases for setting a course as free:
Marketing or Promotional Purposes: Offer a free course as a teaser to showcase your content’s quality, attract potential students, and encourage them to explore paid offerings.
Educational Outreach or Social Impact: Provide free access to educate a broad audience on topics of public good, such as health education, basic skills, or community development.
Building a Community or Audience: Use a free course to grow a following or establish a community around your brand or expertise, fostering long-term engagement.
Testing New Content: Launch a free version of a course to gather feedback from learners, allowing you to refine it before a paid release.
Paid course
A paid course requires users to pay a fee for access, limiting it to those who invest in it. Here are the primary use cases:
Monetizing Expertise: Charge for courses that share valuable knowledge or skills, turning your expertise into a revenue stream.
Providing Exclusive Content: Offer premium, in-depth, or specialized content that justifies a fee, appealing to serious learners who value quality.
Sustaining the Business: Use paid courses to generate income to cover platform costs, staff, or further content development.
Offering Additional Resources or Certification: Include extras like personalized feedback, downloadable materials, or certificates that enhance the course’s value and support a price tag.
Invite only
An invite-only course restricts access to a select group, requiring an invitation to join. Here are the typical use cases:
Beta Testing: Invite a small group to test a course before its public launch, collecting feedback to improve the final version.
Exclusive Groups or Memberships: Limit access to VIP members, a private community, or a high-level audience for a premium or niche experience.
Corporate Training: Design a course for a specific company’s employees, ensuring only they can access it for tailored professional development.
Personalized or Mentorship Programs: Handpick participants for courses involving one-on-one interaction or mentorship, maintaining a controlled, intimate setting.
Research or Academic Purposes: Restrict access to selected participants in a study or academic program, such as a university cohort or research group.
